"Rowboat on the Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck"

Mathias Alten was a German-born impressionist painter. This highly talented artist resided in Grand Rapids between 1890 and 1938.
Best known for his land and seascapes, he was also an accomplished portrait, floral,
Landscape, and animal painter. During his lifetime, he completed up to 3,400 paintings, with approximately 60% of that number painted in Michigan. In 1938 Alten died at age 67 in Grand Rapids.
The beautiful, one of a kind oil painting "Rowboat on the Kalamazoo River, Saugatuck" was generously donated to Humane Society of West Michigan by his granddaughter, Anita Gilleo.
