Skidmore and I worked closely together as he was my guest in my home in France where I taught him etching.--Nall
As told by Steve Skidmore before his death at 50 years of age in 1999:
"Until recently my father, Dave Skidmore, had a sign shop in Birmingham, Alabama. He studied lettering from an early age and worked as a sign painter all his working life. His influence, the influence of Frank Fleming--an artist in Birmingham I met in 1973, and the influence of Nall Hollis-- an artist from Alabama, I met around the same time through Tom Miller, an art historian retired from working at the Cloisters Museum in New York State. Because they were the earliest influences on me, in some ways must be considered the strongest, because it was in the world of their work and their expectations that I began to form my first judgments about my own work.
