Jean-Claude Novaro (French/Antibes, d. 2014) , "Novaro Perfume Bottle", blown glass bottle

Jean-Claude Novaro was a French artist considered one of the greatest glass makers of the 20th century. Novaro's lamps, bottles, and vases utilized Art Deco-inspired shapes to create swirling, colorful forms.

He pioneered techniques which included adding and layering unique materials directly into molten glass, such as metal oxides, precious stones, and luminescent powders which glow in the dark. In recognition of his ambition with his medium,

Novaro is included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the maker of the largest hand-blown glass work ever created. Born on October 18, 1943 in Antibes, France, he began studying glassmaking at age 14 under Eloi Monod in Biot before founding his own studio there in 1977. The artist died on December 30, 2014 in Monaco at the age of 72.
