The students in K-108 each cut out several strips of the NYC Subway Map and decoupaged them onto a blank canvas (was both messy and fun and we learned which subways each child likes the most)! Then the students were given a heart and a peace sign to paint to their individual liking. They also wrote their names on a strip of subway map which appears on both the top and bottom of the canvas. This project was all about PEACE and LOVE in our awesome city. Note: there is a diagram which will be given to the winner mapping out which hearts and peace signs were painted by each child.

Kids in 5-334 were invited to bring their own pieces of toys and things that could be used for this project, and they put the pieces together. This technique, mosaic/collage, has been used in the US culture for many years to decorate teapots and many decorative objects. Mike Kelley took this aesthetic and cultural reference, and blurred the boundaries of high and low culture, and bring kitsch into pop art. This piece captures 5-334's memory's of their childhood and their 5th grade journey together. To go with the theme of this year's auction, the peace sign is also embedded. This is a vibrant and fun piece to look at, and comes with hanging hardware, specially designed by a professional frame shop in Chelsea.
