Master Sommelier Craig Collins has curated a selection of six wines from his personal cellar.

Around the World in 6 Wines

  • Champagne Ayala Brut Nature: Champagne Ayala is a boutique, family-owned and operated producer with only 12 employees. This champagne is dominated by the Chardonnay grape and aged in stainless steel, making it light, clean and refreshing. Perfect on its own, I also love to enjoy this with a lighter seafood dish. Also, Caroline Latrive is the winemaker, one of only three female cellar masters in Champagne!
  • Scarbolo Pinot Grigio 2017 - Friuli, Italy: This is what REAL Pinot Grigio is meant to taste like! Friuli is the epicenter of Pinot Grigio and with notes of apple, pear, peach, lemon and white flowers, this wine is the perfect example of why wine from this area is so great. Try this the next time you have friend over for cheese and salami.
  • Chappellet "Growers Collection" Pinot Noir, Dutton Ranch 2017 - Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California: From one of the most iconic producers of California wine, this single-vineyard Pinot Noir has flavors of cherry, cinnamon and clove. It works well with everything from chicken to salmon but there is nothing wrong with enjoying this on its own. Make sure the wine has a slight chill on it before serving.
  • Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - McLaren Vale, Australia: Everyone enjoys a great Cabernet Sauvignon, and Australia produces some of the best. Besides the classic red and black fruit, powerful structure and new oak, this wine has a beautiful mint characteristic that is a signature of the region. I like this wine with lamb but it is just as delicious with burgers or pizza. Open this wine about 30 minutes before serving.
  • Tenuta Luce 2015 - Tuscany, Italy: One of the first Super Tuscan wines, this Italian red is a blend of the sangiovese and merlot grapes. It a big, powerful, fruity wine that would be right at home the next time you throw a steak on the grill. You should decant this wine at the same time you light the grill for maximum pleasure.
  • Quinta do Noval 10-year Tawny Port - Portugal: This dessert-style port wine is aged 10 years on barrel before it is bottled. With flavors of toffee, figs, almonds, and cherries it is a perfect nightcap. It can easily be sipped only but also pairs well with chocolate, cheese or cigars. The best part is that you can leave this wine open for weeks without it going bad!
