During the last decade, the works of José Carlos Martinat have made appropriation their indelible mark. Unlike the artistic trend of the 1980s that is concerned with issues relating to originality in the arts, Martinat's approach to appropriation involves the removal of elements from the streets -peeling-off political pints, the compilation of plaster casts
of the foundries where heroes of the 19th century were cast in bronze, or take molds from the surfaces of equestrian figures with aluminum foil
that is then re-contextualized in order to comment on the different uses of public space and stories policies of certain places.
