Your host: Ambassador Maengho Shin

Mr. Shin was appointed as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Canada in April 2017. His career in the Foreign Service spans over 30 years, with postings in Belgium, Ethiopia, Austria, Russia, San Francisco and Bulgaria. Since 1985, Ambassador Shin has served in a variety of areas, with a particular focus on multilateral and security issues, including those related to the North Korean nuclear issue and international law.

Mr. Shin holds a B.A. in International Relations from Seoul National University and an M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. He is married and has two children.

The location: Korean Ambassador's Residence

Located at 540 Acacia Avenue, in picturesque Rockcliffe Park, this stunning stone manor sits on an international corner surrounded by diplomatic neighbours.

Built in 1928, and affectionately known as "Greystone," the Korean ambassadorial residence was designed by Werner Ernest Noffke, a prolific Ottawa-based architect. The residence blends both Gothic and Tudor Revival styles, and is considered to be one of the finest works by Noffke.

The Chef: Chef Sunmin Han

Chef Sunmin Han takes pride in introducing authentic Korean cuisine to foreigners. Trained in Korea, she has spent the last 11 years of her profession showcasing the best of what Korean gastronomy has to offer. Now as the Korean Embassy's Resident Chef, Chef Han delights dignitaries and diplomats alike, with her own unique take on traditional and modern Korean recipes.

Date to be determined in consultation with the Embassy.
