This original Chouinard ice hammer was owned by longtime AAC member and climber Jed Williamson.

Jed took it to the Pamirs (then in USSR) in 1974. There were 19 Americans on that infamous international expedition, out of which came Bob Craig's book "Storm and Sorrow." Jed was in a team that was going to attempt a first ascent of the East Face of Peak Lenin (23,400'). They were on their way up the Krylenko Face, nearly to the pass when a 7.2 earthquake rocked the entire range. A massive avalanche and snow storm took
the lives of five Estonian climbers and American Gary Ullin. Plans changed. The Chouinard Ice Hammer never got to see the light of day because the new plan called for the walk-up route.

Ready to go into the hands of someone who appreciates the work Chouinard and Frost did to modernize climbing equipment, and will make a beautiful addition to any climber's collection.
