This hand carved rendition of a Heron at waterside was created as part of an entry sign for a new development, and was ultimately not used. It is an original design. The sign itself is made from clear cedar wood, layered for thickness with marine grade glue. The detail on the heron and grass was hand carved for texture. The carving was built for outdoor use and should last many years. The sign measures about 3 feet wide and 4.5 feet tall. Yep, it's huge.

Artist Paul Miller created this piece in 2002. Paul was a native of DuPage County, residing in Wayne, IL. He graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Illinois and began his career in advertising with graphic design. He branched out into his own company where he was able to combine all of his artistic and design talents into creating custom, hand carved public works of art for commercial use. Much of his work can be seen around Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, and Naperville. He loved to use photos of the Fox River area and local forest preserves as the basis for his landscape oil paintings.

Paul Passed in 2018 but would be quite pleased to know his work would be used to support the mission of The Conservation Foundation and be displayed as intended for others to enjoy. His estate has donated
