The Middle School at Spartanburg Day School is developing a new physical learning space housed within the Middle School to provide additional student opportunities to collaborate in groups, innovate, create, explore, tinker, imagine, build, problem solve with tools that are typically not available in traditional classrooms.

Maker Spaces have a wide range of materials and tools such as 3D printers, looms, sewing machines, laser cutters, paper presses, Raspberry Pi computers, Arduino controllers, circuits and boards, video production equipment and more.

The goal of a maker space is to create a physical location dedicated to enhancing a student community for inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking with applied experimentation.

Research indicates that maker spaces "Support the enhancement of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) education."

Fundraising Goal: $10,000 for maker room renovations, materials, equipment and supplies.
