Method Testing is an exercise assessment to help determine your individual metabolic fingerprint. Whether you're an athlete or looking to lose weight and improve your fitness, you would benefit from completing a Method Test. The test will be performed by an Illinois Bone and Joint Institute licensed Physical Therapist at one of our Loop locations. Method Testing is an incremental exercise test done on a stationary bike or treadmill used to determine your Prime, Anaerobic, and Peak heart rate zones. Each of these heart rate zones corresponds to utilization of a different energy system/fuel source (i.e. fat, carbohydrates, protein). By exercising between different energy systems you can maximize the benefits of your workout while avoiding injury. We slowly increase your workload, monitor your heart rate, and test your lactic acid levels through minimally invasive blood sampling. A unique metabolic fingerprint is generated - your metabolic fingerprint - and can be used to design a goal-specific program for you.
