Signed and numbered White Stripes poster from the Glasgow concerts in 2005 by artist Rob Jones.
Rob Jones didn't set out to redefine the visual identity of one of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century. In the early 2000s, he was an aspiring film student at the University of Texas at Austin, working retail and dabbling in comic book illustration. That changed when a stroke of unexpected timing handed him his big break: a minor injury delayed a tour for The White Stripes, giving Jones extra time to pour his obsession with vintage imagery and screen printing into a concert poster draft. When Jack White saw the artwork, a decades-long creative kinship was born.
As the band exploded into global icons, Jones became their unofficial visual director. Operating under a strict visual discipline-frequently locked into the band's signature color palette of crimson red, stark white, and deep black-his silkscreen posters gave a surreal, bold graphic texture to their raw blues-rock sound. He wasn't just creating gig promos; he was building a mythos. That devotion reached a high point in 2011 when Jones took home a Grammy Award for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for his work on Under Great White Northern Lights, the band's career-retrospective box set.
Among collector circles, his posters from the mid-2000s hold a legendary status-none more so than his design for The White Stripes' three-night run at the O2 Academy in Glasgow, Scotland, in November 2005. Created to support Get Behind Me Satan, the original run was restricted to a tiny edition of just 240 hand-numbered screen prints. Over the years, Jones has graciously donated signed copies from this rare Glasgow batch to charity auctions and music archives, turning an iconic piece of Scottish rock history into a sought-after relic for fans and a testament to his philanthropic spirit.
Beyond his work with Jack White, Jones co-founded Mondo, the legendary creative studio behind the Alamo Drafthouse's boutique movie prints, where he spent over a decade shaping modern pop-culture screen printing. Today, through his studio Animal Rummy and ongoing work with Third Man Records, Jones remains one of the most celebrated and instantly recognizable voices in contemporary poster art.
