Artist: Mary Klein
Medium: Mixed Media
Size: 13" x 20"
Artist Mary Klein creates unique sculptural paintings by combining salvaged materials
with her vibrant paintings of seemingly ordinary subjects, giving new life to these found
objects. Mary builds her frames with old moldings, window sashes and ceiling tin; her
"canvases" are usually plywood or paneling. Her subjects are inspired by the natural
beauty she finds in her surroundings, her memories or travels in the states and abroad.
"Sometimes I see images in my head, in my dreams or they emerge once I'm involved
in painting, constructing or searching for materials to make art. I paint everything from
landscapes to still lifes, dogs, fish and even polar bears, but I've become best known for
my paintings of pears."
Ms. Klein grew up in the South and left her career in the mental health field to pursue
her passion for painting full time in 1991. She is nationally recognized for her soulful
and eclectic approach. Klein's art hangs in homes, businesses and galleries throughout
the world. The House of Blues, with locations across the country, have purchased over
100 pieces of Klein's work, and they are featured in their permanent collection. In the
spring of 2001, Mary fulfilled a lifelong dream of living in New York City and now creates her artwork in an old shoe factory in Brooklyn.
