1"Retrato de Familia" ("Family Portrait"). Ricardo Silveira Miro (Cuba, b. 1960). Retrato de famila, 2003
Collagraph in colors on paper, An artist's proof aside from the edition of unknown size, Signed, titled, dated and inscribed "P/A La Habana. Colografia" in pencil in the lower margin: Silveira; Taller Experimental de Grafica, Havana, Cuba, pub., with their blindstamp in the lower margin. Provenance: The Carolyn J. Adrian Collection, South Pasadena, CA 27" x 37".
Titling it "Family Portrait" while centering the Virgin of Guadalupe amid palm trees and a celestial motif suggests a deeply personal, symbolic meditation on faith, homeland, and ancestry - very characteristic of contemporary Cuban printmaking, which often blends Catholic iconography, Afro-Caribbean symbolism, and tropical imagery.
