For the Choctaw Cultural Center's silent auction, Billy hand-embellished this light linen jacket with cultural motifs, including Choctaw diamonds and ribbons. Through wearable art, she showcases identity and honors the traditions that connect generations, demonstrating the intersection of fashion, self-expression, and heritage. Dimensions: Size Large Created: 2026-09-11
About the donor: Teri Billy is a Choctaw seamstress based in Durant, Oklahoma. Raised in Wright City by her grandmother and aunts, Choctaw was her first language and remains central to her sense of identity and cultural understanding.
Inspired by her late husband Curtis Billy's love of art, Teri developed a deep appreciation for color theory and art history. She began sewing at 13, making clothes for herself and later for her four children. In the late 1970s, she began sewing traditional Choctaw dresses and has continued sketching and developing designs throughout her life.
Shipping: A large item fee of $35 would apply if shipping is needed for this item.
