Let's welcome New Paltz artist, Manuela Oprea by bidding high on her one-of-a-kind sculpture, Celestial Drift I of IV, 2026.

Celestial Drift I is a raku-fired ceramic sculpture whose smoky blacks, luminous blues, and metallic tones evoke drifting clouds and an atmospheric sky. Shaped by fire and chance, the surface captures a sense of movement and transformation.

Don't miss the chance to transform your sideboard, dining table, or coffee table with this stunning conversation piece.

Dimensions: 14 1/2 inches x 4 inches

What Is Raku?

Raku is a fast-firing, ceramic process that was first done in Japan over 500 years ago. The Japanese fired their ware in small kilns that were opened when red hot. The pieces were removed and either quenched in water or left to air cool. In 1960 a California potter, Paul Soldner 'Americanized' the raku process by submerging the quick-fired pottery in combustibles rather than quenching them in water. This process produces finishes that are interesting and impossible to replicate.
