Artist Bio

As an Artist a recent part of my process has been the investigation of various sculptural techniques such as Metal Casting, 3D modeling, and Slip Casting to create figures. I am interested in the tactile nature of producing objects in the round, the series of inversions that occur to produce cast metal objects, and the dialogue between internal and external environments. The figures in my work are often imaginary, representations of nostalgia based on my childhood in South Florida. The cultural distinctions and overlap between southern black/caribbean culture and inner city chicago black culture provide a crucible for camaraderie/solidarity. The materiality of cast bronze, aluminum, iron and ceramics give nebulous concepts and digital artifacts weight and gravity. The rigidness of sculptural form contrasts with the wiry, ductile nature of memory. The more a memory is remembered or replayed, longed for or seen through rose tinted glasses the more corroded it becomes over time. Akin to the re-taping of a VCR or the wearing down of soles. Memory is eventually broken down and digested.
