One of America's outstanding contemporary Native painters, Harrison Begay was born on the Navajo Reservation in 1917 near White Cone Trading Post in Arizona. From 1934 to 1940 he studied arts and crafts at the Indian School in Santa Fe. Harrison was in the armed services from 1942 until 1945. In 1951 he helped found Tewa Enterprises for the purpose of making hand silk-screened examples of Native art available to the public, as well as increasing interest in the work of other Native artists. This painting is a hand-made silk screen print.
