Monument, Freedom's Crossing, New York City, 2024, William Earle Williams (b. 1950), signed archival ink print, 7.5 x 7.5 inches unframed, 9x9 inches framed. Also includes a special edition, cloth-bound book of Their Kindred Earth, signed and stamped by the artist.
Their Kindred Earth: Photographs by William Earle Williams was a watershed exhibition at the Florence Griswold Museum in 2025. As our Artist in Residence for 2023-2025, Williams traveled to the corners of Old Lyme and Connecticut, photographing little-known sites significant to enslavement, emancipation, and African Americans' contributions to state history. Through the elegant and profound beauty of Williams' photography, his work seeks to reveal the presence and lived experience of enslaved people within these familiar scenes. We are proud to have partnered with Williams on a project that built upon his lifelong commitment to documenting hidden histories of Black America through his artistic work, and we are honored to be able to share with the winner this special print of Williams' work from that important exhibition.
A meaningful, custom-framed photographic print, Monument, Freedom's Crossing, New York City, 2024 is offered by the artist. The winner will also receive a special edition of the award-winning exhibition catalogue for Their Kindred Earth, which has been hand bound in cloth over boards. Only 26 special copies exist, designated A-Z. Signed by the artist, this is Copy G (which stands for Griswold).
Donated By the Artist. Framing services donated by The Frame Shop on Wall Street in Madison, CT.
