Summer in Lyme by Frank V. DuMond - oil on panel; 10 x 14 inches, 16 x 20 inches framed; c. 1920
A member of the Lyme Art Colony, Frank Vincent DuMond (1865-1951) was an accomplished illustrator, landscape, mural, portrait, and still life painter. A noted teacher at the Art Students League for more than 50 years, his students including Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, and John Marin. He also directed the Lyme Summer School of Art and developed the influential Prismatic Palette, a system for organizing color according to atmospheric perspective. His work is held in such prestigious collections as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Society of Illustrators, and New Britain Museum of American Art -- and the Florence Griswold Museum, of course.
Painting is not signed but its authenticity has been verified by The Cooley Gallery of Old Lyme.
