The Sunrise Mug

Handcrafted Orange Ceramic Mug by Dr. David Kalish

The potter lifted the mug from the kiln just as morning light streamed through the studio window.

For a moment, it was difficult to tell where the sunlight ended and the glaze began.

Warm.

Inviting.

Full of energy.

The color brought to mind the first rays of dawn cresting the horizon, the glow of autumn leaves in late afternoon, and the unmistakable comfort of a favorite beverage enjoyed at the start of a new day.

Some mugs hold coffee.

Others hold a moment.

Handcrafted by Dr. David Kalish, a talented ceramic artist and member of the Middle Georgia State University Foundation Board of Trustees, this striking orange ceramic mug transforms an everyday ritual into an experience. Its vibrant glaze and artisan craftsmanship create a piece that is both functional and expressive.

The mug feels substantial in hand, offering the kind of character and authenticity that mass-produced pieces simply cannot replicate. Each curve, contour, and subtle variation reflects the touch of the artist and the transformative power of clay and fire.

Perfect for morning coffee, afternoon tea, or late-night conversations, it is a piece designed not merely to be used, but to be enjoyed.

Because the best handmade pottery does more than serve a purpose.

It brightens the day.
