Elise DiGiuseppe, Lost Turquoise, 2022, Oil and cold wax with crayon and collage, 24 x 18 x 1.5 in
As a painter working abstractly, Elise DiGiuseppe combines oil, cold wax, collage, and mixed media to explore botanical forms, the subversion of nature, and the tension between built and natural environments. Drawing remains central to her process, and each painting is infused with layered mark making and gestural line.
After a long career in public librarianship specializing in youth services and children's literature, DiGiuseppe returned to her original passion as an artist. She transformed a backyard tool shed into a working studio, building both a daily creative practice and a growing presence online. Her work reflects a sustained curiosity about growth, decay, structure, and transformation, balancing intuition with careful observation. Through texture, abstraction, and layered surfaces, she creates paintings that invite close looking and evoke the complexity and resilience found within the natural world.
