Yonnah Ben Levy, Winter Raindrops I, 2026, acrylics on canvas mounted on wood, 17 x 23 x 1 in
Yonnah Ben Levy's work emerges from her deepest sense of self. She believes in redemption, a quality she has witnessed in her own life, and gratitude for the world and for life is deeply embedded in her artistic practice.
As a teacher, she seeks not to create followers of a particular style, but to help unlock the creativity within each individual. She often describes herself as more of an artist in residence than a traditional instructor, while also remaining a lifelong learner who continually acquires and shares new techniques. Her experience working in various art production studios has also shaped her view of herself as a kind of "factory worker," engaged in both making and process.
In her workshops and teaching at an art center, she places equal importance on listening to her students. Each participant brings a unique background, story, and perspective, which informs the shared creative experience.
In 2013, Ben Levy received a Certificate in Pastoral Leadership from Seattle University, where she participated in a cohort of clergy as the only non-clerical member. During this time, she hosted individual art sessions as part of her practice. She views both teaching and art as grounded in humility and presence, understanding art itself as an act of faith.
For seven years, she taught at the Grunewald Guild in the Cascades, an organization centered on the motto "art and faith," where she was also the only Jewish instructor. In collaboration with her husband, she has created numerous large-scale paintings for hospitals, produced both through commission and from existing works.
