Al Schwartz, Untitled, 2026, acrylic/canvas on birch panel, 10 x 8 x 1.5 in

Al Schwartz is a contemporary abstract painter based in the Pacific Northwest.

He studied fine art at Western Washington University and the University of New Mexico and has maintained a professional studio practice for more than thirty years. For over two decades, he lived and worked in Hawaii, exhibiting through galleries and serving as an artist-in-residence at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. His work is included in numerous public and private collections, including the State of Hawaii Art Collection.

Schwartz's paintings emerge through an intuitive process shaped by rhythm, texture, and natural movement. He works without a fixed plan, allowing the painting to develop through layers of response and risk.

Each work becomes a balance between control and openness. His work explores rhythm, texture, and a natural, intuitive process. Paintings develop through layers of response, allowing chance and risk to guide the composition toward balance.
