Ruby Lori Linscheid, Waiting for Richie, 2026, Watercolor, oil pastel, colored pencil, acrylic, 7 x 10 in

Ruby Lori Linscheid's work centers on the joy of the present moment, the instant the first mark meets the paper, the pastel blends into paint, and the colors begin to sing. Her practice embraces materials that encourage spontaneity and serendipity, while striving toward a sense of completion, satisfaction, and delight. She values the dynamic interaction between medium and gesture, allowing process to remain visible within the finished work.

Her recent body of work reflects a return to the studio following a hiatus devoted to teaching and raising a family. This return represents a renewed engagement with her artistic practice, the creative community of the Pacific Northwest, and the ongoing rhythm of studio exploration. She describes this transition as rejoining the parade, slipping back into the river of creativity, and reconnecting with fellow artists in the PNW.

These works are inspired by the increasing presence of ravens and crows in the region. Through vibrant color, spontaneous technique, and a semi-abstract approach, she seeks to portray their joyful, curious, rambunctious, and occasionally mischievous spirit. The resulting pieces balance energy and intention, celebrating movement, play, and the expressive possibilities of abstraction.
