Carol Adelman, The Truth About Miss Piggy, 2004, oil on panel, 24 x 18 x 1 in
Carol Adelman is an artist fascinated by the gap between representation and lived experience in painting. She works from observation, its imprint on her imagination, and from art historical imagery, to explore the construction of identity. Her representational images emerge from fragments of abstraction just as she sees herself emerging from fragments of experience, memory, and cultural projection over time. With a love of the absurd, she uses a variety of sources-including still life-but the lifelong bedrock of her studio practice is the live study of the human form.
