Analvis Somoza Jimenez, Raiz de Voces, 2026, oleo, 70 x 50 x 0.5 cm
Analvis Somoza Jimenez's work explores the human condition through an expressive and symbolic language where the emotional, spiritual, and symbolic intertwine. Rather than depicting external reality, the work seeks to reveal the internal forces that shape it, using distortion and transfiguration of the human figure to approach emotional truths beyond language.
Each piece becomes a space where the intimate turns collective, and memory emerges as a living network of presences, tensions, and resonances. The human figure serves as a site for exploring identity, vulnerability, resilience, and transformation, while bodies and faces function as symbolic entities embodying states of consciousness rather than individual portraits.
Cuban identity, shaped by Hispanic, African, and Indigenous syncretism, informs this visual language as an "interior Caribbean" where ancestral and contemporary influences coexist. The series Los Dandys centralizes themes of duality, elegance as resistance, and identity as mask and revelation.
Through intuitive, layered processes, color and gesture articulate psychological tensions. Multiple faces reflect identity as collective memory-an evolving weave of voices, echoes, and shifting presences.
