Two of Pauillac's legendary First Growths, side by side. The 1986 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild comes from vineyards dating back to Roman times; the estate's proximity to the Atlantic moderates temperature swings, while its gravelly soil forces vine roots deep into the earth, adding minerality to the fruit long prized by European royalty.
