CHARLES KAY JR. (born 1970) is a first-generation Thai-American multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents immigrated from Thailand in 1966 to attend university. He graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA, in 1992. Kay has lived and worked in Los Angeles, Paris, Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, and Omaha, NE. His work has been exhibited at Denver International Airport, the Center for Fine Art Photography, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, KANEKO, the Museum of Nebraska Art, Fred Simon Gallery, the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, Anne Reed Gallery, Gilman Contemporary, CLIC Gallery, and Nelson Macker Fine Art. His work has received recognition through the Hasselblad Award, the American Photography Artist Showcase, the Pilsner Urquell International Photography Award, the Aperture West Book Prize, and the Prix de la Photographie. Kay Jr. is recognized for bodies of work that explore architecture, identity, abstraction, and perception.
