MARY ANN STRANDELL is a painter of note. Her work examines the intersection of nature and technology in our participation with society. Combining places and objects as content markers, she considers the collapse of historic space between the baroque, modernism, and the post-modern. These subjects are explored with drawing, painting, and 3D lenticular media. Works begin as singular paintings and evolve into 3D lenticular. Its hypnagogic complex montage system translates hand-drawn images into a language of glitch, with interwoven optical fabrications. Strandell's BFA is from the University of South Dakota; her MA and MFA are from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Her work has been exhibited and written about widely. She has received numerous grants, residencies, and awards, including the NEA in Midwest Painting Arts, an Arts and Humanities Grant, a Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship Grant, and a 2025 Arts in Public Places Commission, Miami.

Artist-in-Residence, 1996
