REBECCA ALEXANDRA HERSKOVITZ is an artist and educator whose work embodies authenticity and nuanced meaning-making. It is an investigation of the ways that humans engage with life's challenging realities, including loss and grief, as well as the existence that marches on afterward. Herskovitz's paintings weave together organic shapes, abstract color fields, and linear elements. A form materializes, though only for a moment-vacillating interchangeably, and perhaps simultaneously, between foreground and background. Each piece includes a component of dissolution: a reminder that nothing is certain. Born in Boston, Herskovitz earned her BA and MAT in Visual Art from Clark University. She then lived in Omaha, exhibiting throughout the region and receiving the OEA award for Best Emerging Visual Artist in 2011. Herskovitz graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with an MS in Special Education, focusing on teen social-emotional and mental health. Herskovitz now resides in Western Massachusetts.
