JOE BROGHAMMER earned his BFA from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He also completed graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was part of Creative Capital in 2009 and was an artist in residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in 2012. Broghammer has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, as well as in Holland, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Mexico. His work is held in museum collections and numerous public and private collections. He has developed into one of the region's most original voices, with mark-making that can be traced from Bosch and Brueghel to Dali and Magritte and linked to the likes of John Graham and Tony Fitzpatrick. His works explore an ongoing conversation with himself, using animals as a stage to create a visual diary of life around him. Within his own world, he works through issues, celebrates happiness, and tells stories of what has happened to better remember himself and life's journey.
