MICHAEL TEGLAND is an artist living in Omaha, NE. Tegland's textural graphite drawings on matte black panels are deeply rooted in several cultural influences, especially his own Norse and Germanic past. This may account for his works' black-on-black palette and images of both obscure and familiar figures embedded in a web of geometric patterns. His imagery varies from Celtic elements and Maori tattoos to extraterrestrial crop circles. His meticulous mark-making, as well as tonal variations from clay to metal, invite one to explore the exterior as both mirror and window. Tegland attended the University of Nebraska Omaha, where he studied Fine Arts. Equally influential was Tegland's thirty-year stint as Chief Preparator at Joslyn Art Museum. A full-time artist, Tegland's work resides in numerous private and public collections in the United States and Europe, including the permanent collection of the Sheldon Museum of Art.
