BARBARA TAKENAGA received a J. S. Guggenheim Fellowship in 2020 and a Founders Grant from the Trellis Art Fund in 2024. Public works include a commission by MTA Arts & Design to create a permanent installation of mosaic and laminated glass for the Metro-North White Plains Station, and a 30 ft. long mosaic at NYU Langone. In 2017, Williams College Museum of Art organized a 20-year survey of Takenaga's work, accompanied by a Prestel publication. Other exhibitions include DC Moore Gallery in New York, Robischon Gallery in Denver, a two-person exhibition at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, NE (2018); a wall installation for SPACE 42 at The Neuberger Museum of Art in New York (2017); and a 110-foot-long wall installation titled Nebraska (2015-17) at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA. An upcoming retrospective will be at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City in October 2026. Takenaga lives and works in New York.
