MIATTA KAWINZI is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work explores spaces of connection and possibility across geographies and temporalities of the African Diaspora. She is interested in languages of gesture and reaching, and her mediums include mixed media, installation, sculpture, sound, writing, and still and moving images. Solo exhibitions include An Alphabet of Unfolding at Bemis Center (2026, Omaha), Numma Yah at Smack Mellon (2024, New York City), and Soft is Strong at CUE Art Foundation (2021, New York City). Creative Capital, the Jerome Foundation, and the Harpo Foundation have supported her work. She has completed residencies at MacDowell, Smack Mellon, and Bemis Center, among others. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from Hunter College and currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts (New York City). Her work is in the collections of the Studio Museum in Harlem (New York City) and Art in Embassies (Liberia).
