Foursome at American Dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan.
This special course serves as a living memorial and the birthplace of Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled U.S. military service members (and first responders). Crucially, 100% of the course's profits go directly to this foundation.
The course was the brainchild of Lt. Col. Dan Rooney-an Air Force F-16 fighter pilot and PGA Professional-and legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus was so moved by the mission that he and his design firm completely waived their multi-million dollar design fee to completely reinvent the property, which was formerly known as the Grand Haven Golf Club.
From a purely physical standpoint, Nicklaus stripped away decades of dense, narrow tree lines to unearth the rolling, dramatic, natural sand dunes hidden underneath. The result is a stunning, rugged "sandscape" that looks and feels like a mix of a lunar surface and a classic coastal links course, offering a world-class challenge for golfers.
The only way to enter or exit the golf course is by walking through a solemn memorial where you walk in the actual boot prints of fallen soldiers cast in bronze. Every single hole features two plaques: one detailing one of Jack Nicklaus's 18 Major Championship victories, and another sharing the story of a Folds of Honor scholarship recipient.
Expires 12/31/27. Tee time must be mutually agreed upon.
