Guest of Honor: Julie Burman Kaplan

Guest of Honor & Ruth Page Award Recipient

Julie Burman Kaplan is a Chicago-based dancer, choreographer, educator, and arts advocate whose career has profoundly shaped the city's dance landscape. After early recognition for her artistic achievement at the University of Colorado, Julie joined Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, performing nationally and internationally while teaching at the Lou Conte Dance Studio. She later founded River North Dance Studio and co-founded River North Dance Chicago, helping establish a vibrant force in contemporary dance in Chicago.

Since 1993, she has been a beloved adult jazz instructor at Ruth Page School of Dance, known for her musicality, warmth, and community-building. Her leadership extends to service on the Chicago Dance Health Fund Board of Directors and the Dance for Life Artistic Committee, reflecting her lifelong devotion to movement, mentorship, and the Chicago dance community.

This year marks the building's Centennial Anniversary!

Since 1926, this historic space has been a neighborhood stronghold, whether as the Independent Order of Foresters Temple, or as a Moose Lodge with a bowling alley, or in its current form, as a vibrant arts center with a 218-seat performance space, classic dance studios, and office spaces for nonprofit arts organizations. For 100 years, 1016 North Dearborn Street has been a hub for connection and community.
