Setting aside 90 minutes for the Clifton Strengths Assessment at the start of application season can help teens provide insight in common application essays, frame extracurriculars in a way that aligns with classroom strengths and communicate what they will bring to a school. The Clifton Strengths Assessment is a crucial tool to help high school students identify and communicate their innate talents before they begin applications. What do they excel at without really thinking about it? When have
they had moments of true ease and brilliance in and out of the classroom? Can they verbalize examples of this? As a certified coach, I administer the 30-minute assessment (online) and then break down the results in a one-hour meeting with teens (virtual or in person), identifying their Top 5 strengths and finding concrete ways to illustrate these strengths in action. These conversations routinely lead to a better understanding of self, insight into how to communicate their innate talents, and a greater understanding of which areas of study and career may be the best fit.
