Adana Tillman born in Akron, Ohio now working out of Atlanta, Georgia as a fiber/textile artist, with a concentration on figurative depictions. She first began her exploration into the art of quilting by the instruction of her mother, who herself began sewing at an early age. Receiving formal training in the visual arts from elementary through college and supplementing her education with classes and self-direction outside of traditional schooling. Her work primarily focuses on the exploration of identity and self-expression of her subjects. With the use of various fabrics, she creates intricate quilted textile portraiture works. Each piece incorporates found textiles acquired through the artist's travels. Her mother has developed an extensive library of fabrics over the years and sometimes sources those materials. The artists' hand dyeing of textiles has become a large part of the practice incorporated with hand beading and embroidery, adding another tactile dimension to the work. Most recently the artist completed residencies in Germany, and participated in the ECC-Italy art exhibit in Venice in partnership with Knowhere Art Gallery.
