Johnny and June were brought to us in October by local Animal Control. They were found lying like heaps of bones, discarded like trash. Both around 10 years old, June weighed 41 pounds, and Johnny weighed 47 pounds. Animal Control worked with the police while we cared for these two senior souls. They came to us infested with fleas. They had no body fat, and Johnny was visually impaired. They had horrible teeth, bumps and lumps, and yet - the kindest hearts. It's always astounding to us when these dogs who have lived such terrible lives come to us so gentle and grateful. We gave them nutritious food, soft pets, and kind, healing words. They liked going on slow walks and just enjoying the moment with shelter and clinic caregivers. We were smitten with them.

June had some heart issues, and Johnny, who was partially blind, had tested positive for heartworms. With care, medications, and ongoing monitoring, Johnny and June were cleared from the clinic for medical foster homes. Both dogs loved their foster homes. They finally got the chance to be taken care of - they were fed nutritious food, they had beds, blankets, and toys, and they learned they could trust humans.

At the beginning of January 2026, June passed away peacefully in the love and comfort of her foster home. It was unexpected, but we all found peace knowing that she had a few months of knowing love, and she didn't die alone on the streets.

A few months later in May 2026, Johnny followed June across the rainbow bridge. He left this earth in dignity, comfort, and peace in the arms of his foster parents who loved him so deeply.

We fell hard for Johnny and June, despite only knowing them for less than a year. We are honored to have had the privilege of caring for them and giving the soft, supported end of life that they so fully deserved.

Artwork will NOT be available to pick up before this (unless you are notified otherwise via email). If you are not local to the St. Louis Area, shipping is available for this item upon request (for an additional cost which will be calculated for each piece individually). All winning bidders will receive an email with more information once the auction has closed.
