This smart girl took some time and patience to finally rescue. I first saw her one day when I was out on another rescue call. As I passed by a street not far from the shelter, I spotted her laying in the street. I quickly turned around to check on her and found her at the place that would be "our usual meeting spot" for the next few months.

Lumi (as she would be named after rescue), stayed at this red brick abandoned house. At first, she would always bark at me when I pulled up. I thought she might have puppies she was protecting because her bark was that intense. But, as it turns out, she was just protecting her place. She stayed in the front part of the house, and every time I arrived, I would hear her start barking and run out of the house. I would put food and water down along the side of the house so no one would bother her. This was our routine for quite awhile. I tried setting a trap, but Lumi didn't want to have anything to do with it. So I just kept coming, leaving food and gaining her trust. Finally, she would come out wagging her tail a bit, and patiently sit on the sidewalk waiting for me to put her food down. All this time, I kept trying to think of a way to get her off the street.

The hot days turned into cold days and the thought of her still being out there was killing me. It was snowing and sleeting one day when I drove by. My intention was to just leave food again. But then I thought of another plan. I parked farther down the street where she wouldn't hear me pull up, and I quietly approached down the side of the building and into the back door. It worked! I had her cornered in that front room before she was able to hear me and run out.

The poor girl was trembling so hard. Between being terrified and cold, her body would not stop shaking. There was NO WAY I was leaving without her this time. After having a conversation with her about how all this was going to go, I finally got a leash on her, got her out of the house and into the warm shelter. This girl could finally get some good sleep. She became THE best girl. She is still looking for her forever home, but I can guarantee whoever adopts her will be getting the perfect companion.

Artwork will NOT be available to pick up before this (unless you are notified otherwise via email). All winning bidders will receive an email with more information once the auction has closed. Shipping is NOT available for this item.
