Title: Celebrating Life
Artist: Pat Drone
Medium: Acrylic
Dimensions: 20" x 26"
Animal Depicted: Boiled Peanut
Boiled Peanut's story is one of complete betrayal. She came to us weighing just 18 pounds. Even though she was small, cute, and desirable, humans found a way to use her for their personal profit by breeding her and then discarding her. She had a prolapsed uterus and fly strikes on her ears, which told us she had been living outside. She was missing hair, her teeth were in horrible shape, she was anemic and in need of fluids. She was dehydrated, malnourished, had open wounds on her legs, and she was so very dirty. At just 5 years old, life had not been easy - yet once in our care, she craved attention and just wanted to be held.
Boiled Peanut stayed in the clinic and with staff members who promised to give her the love, security, and dignity that she deserved while she healed. With the help of antibiotics, nutrients, clean water, and a lot of rest, she gained enough weight and was ready to be spayed. When the doctor went in to spay her, she found a deceased fetus that had gotten stuck in her uterus. Poor Boiled Peanut - our hearts broke for her all over again. After her spay, it didn't take long for her forever family to find her. She is so spoiled now, and she fits into her forever home like she has always been a part of it.
