"Spring at East Flattop Mountain, Glacier NP," 2026, oil on board, 12" x 38" by Dr. Noel Drury

All lovers of Glacier National Park know that, without fail, coming into its presence feels like coming home. As the poet Seamus Heaney has said about the coast of County Clare in Ireland, Glacier NP "catches the heart off guard and blows it open."

This painting depicts East Flattop Mountain along Going-to-the-Sun Road of eastern Glacier NP, near St. Mary Lake on a blustery spring day.

Noel Drury worked as a psychiatrist at the public mental health center in Kalispell and at Logan Health from 1990 through 2012. Since then, among other lucky voyages, he's worked with an excellent teacher to learn the art and craft of painting landscapes, especially that of Glacier NP. "The lyf so short, the craft so long to lerne." (Chaucer 1400 CE!).
