Handmade Nesting Box for Eastern Bluebirds with sized restrictor plate - box dimensions = 5 1/2" x 13" x 5 1/2"
Attracting Birds, Butterflies, and other Backyard Wildlife will show you how to fill your yard or garden with the sights and sounds of nature. In this bestselling book, Naturalist David Mizejewski uncovers the basic elements of habitat you can provide that the local birds, butterflies, bees, and a whole host of other wonderful wildlife neighbors need for survival.
Eastern Bluebirds begin looking for nesting sites in South Carolina in early February. Bluebirds prefer an open area, as they like to sit on the top of the box and look in all directions. Boxes should face the morning sun, and be at least 300 ft apart. Bluebirds will nest 2-3 times during a season, so be sure to clean out the nesting material after fledglings have left the nest. A single screw can be removed from these boxes for easy cleaning.
It is very important to take measures to keep predators away from the nest. Boxes should be mounted on a metal pole so that the entrance hole is 5 ft from the ground.
Item available for free pick up at the SCWF office in Columbia. Some limited delivery options available. Email mail@scwf.org if you have any questions.

Wood Duck Nesting Box
$60Female Wood ducks typically build their nests in tree cavities near wetlands. When a prospective cavity is found, a hen wood duck will land in the tree and carefully inspect the site for a variety of characteristics, including size, shape and security from predators and the elements. In many areas, wood ducks have difficulty finding suitable natural nesting sites. Wood duck boxes provide a man-made alternative, where hens can nest in relative safety from predators. The deployment of large numbers of nesting boxes can be used to help increase local or regional populations of wood ducks in areas where natural cavities are limited.
This wooden box is 9" x 25", and attached to a 9" x 31" backing piece. ready for mounting to a post.

Birds & Beans Coffee + Mug
$20"Scarlet Tanager" Dark Roast 12oz. Birds and Beans Coffee with a SCWF Mug
*option for whole or ground at pickup*
More about Birds and Beans:
For over 100 years full and partial shade farming was the traditional method of coffee production. However the industry's boom resulted in most forests being cleared. Full-sun farms elicit a higher yield and require less management creating bigger profits for CEO's. For migratory birds and local wildlife the result of this is habitat loss. Now less than 40% of coffee farms remain in true shade and organic. The human cost is that many coffee workers must move to find work and fair wages as this increased demand for coffee has led to lowered standards.
At Birds & Beans Coffee they pay farmers the top price for coffee so they can keep growing coffee the old-fashioned way and so they can keep supporting their workers and families. These farms, many of which have grown coffee for over 100 years, are amazing winter refuges for over 50 species of the neo-tropical migratory birds that breed here in the United States.
