Allan Houser, Buffalo Hunt, circa 1992, pastel and charcoal on paper, 29 x 30.25 in.
Allan Houser is the most widely known and collected of all Native American artists. In 1990 he set out to create a body of two-dimensional works embodying the spontaneity and freshness of his voluminous sketchbook renderings. The result was approximately 200 large charcoal and pastel drawings, which have now been featured in museum exhibitions at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Gilcrease Museum, Dartmouth's Hood Museum, and the University of Oklahoma.
This piece was included in Allan Houser Drawings: The Centennial Exhibition, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum, University of Oklahoma. The drawing is unsigned; however, an Allan Houser Estate letter of authenticity is provided.
