There are pedigrees that impress. And then there are pedigrees that stop a room. UKB Hakari's Legend is of the second kind - a direct son of the original import sire Hikari, out of JVP Ms Homare J 30E, a cow widely described by leading Akaushi breeders as the most powerful female in the entire American Wagyu Association herd. To understand what is on offer with this lot, one must first understand the two individuals that created him, because in the history of Red Wagyu genetics outside Japan, there is arguably no more significant mating than this one.
The Sire: Hikari (FB2455) - The Breed's Greatest Growth Sire
Hikari arrived in America in 1994 as part of the Englewood Farms importation from Kumamoto Prefecture - one of only three Red Wagyu bulls to ever leave Japan alive. His credentials were impeccable before he set foot on American soil. Hikari is a son of Dai 10 Mitsumaru, the best proven marbling sire in Japan, who was proven in Kumamoto with 73 head showing 41.1% graded higher than BMS 5, ranking first in 1998 at an average age of 22.9 months. Breedplan confirms Hikari as a breed-leading sire for 200 day weights, 400 day weights, and 600 day weights. He is known for exceptional balance - extreme balance of growth with high marbling and carcass traits - and is a leading proven sire of sons including WSI Umemaru, TWA Kajikari, TWA Kotsukari, and Heartbrand Hercules 2619A. His daughters are heavy milkers. His calving ease is exceptional. And his sire progeny have won more championship titles, more Breedplan ranking positions, and more carcass competitions than any other single foundation sire in the breed.
Hikari's sons read like a roll call of the breed's all-time elite: WSI Umemaru, sire of multiple Houston and Denver Grand Champions and regarded as one of the finest carcass-trait bulls ever produced in North America; TWA Kajikari, one of the breed's premier marbling sires and grandsire of the 2015 Champion of the World; TWA Kotsukari, with elite growth and milk EBVs on 41 analyzed progeny; and Heartbrand Hercules 2619A, another decorated champion son. UKB Hakari's Legend is a direct son of this irreplaceable foundation import. Hikari is a son of Japanese legend Dai 10 Mitsumaru 76, who also sired breed legends Big Al, Kaedemaru, and the Elephant Cow. Hikari himself is now deceased, and no new semen can ever be collected. Every straw of his progeny's genetics - including UKB Hakari's Legend - carries the living legacy of a sire the breed cannot replace.
The Dam: JVP Ms Homare J 30E - The Most Powerful Cow in the AWA
If Hikari is the breed's greatest sire, then JVP Ms Homare J 30E is his perfect counterpart as a dam. The J 30E cow is widely considered to be the most powerful cow in the Akaushi breed. She is a daughter of Judo - the 1976 original import sire considered the best marbling of all the original Red Wagyu bulls - making her one of only a tiny handful of direct Judo daughters in existence. Judo is considered the best marbling of all the original Red Wagyu/Akaushi sires, with Hikari being widely considered the second best marbling. J 30E was imported to America by Japanese Venture Partners in 1994 alongside the original import cow Kunisakae - two red heifers, Kunisakae and 27 Homare, among only 16 live Red Wagyu animals ever exported from Japan.
