SOR 1080 is the product of one of the most celebrated matings possible within the Red Wagyu breed - Heartbrand Big Al 502, undisputed as the breed's greatest balanced foundation sire, crossed on WSI Kaedemaru 2, a direct daughter of Kaedemaru, the first fullblood Red Wagyu born outside Japan. Both sides of this pedigree trace independently to Dai 10 Mitsumaru - the greatest-proven sire in Japanese Red Wagyu history - creating a deliberate and powerful linebreeding on the breed's foremost foundation bull through two of its most celebrated daughters.
Sire: Heartbrand Big Al 502 - One of the GOAT of the Akaushi Breed
Heartbrand Big Al 502 needs little introduction to serious Akaushi breeders. The first Red Wagyu/Akaushi born outside Japan, he arrived in quarantine in January 1995 as the result of breeding foundation import Akiko - one of the stoutest and most powerful Akaushi females ever to leave Japan - to the legendary Dai 10 Mitsumaru before her export. Big Al is consistently ranked as the highest foundation bull across multiple AWA EBV categories, the undisputed premier heifer producer in the history of the breed, and is credited with transmitting excellent maternal qualities, milking ability, structural balance, and calving ease across three generations and three continents. He is F11-free. Deceased, he is commemorated by a life-size mount at Heartbrand's Texas operation - a fitting tribute to a sire whose influence on the breed may never be surpassed.
Dam: WSI Kaedemaru 2 (FB11873) - Daughter of the First Fullblood Born Outside Japan
Kaedemaru - dam of WSI Kaedemaru 2 - holds the singular distinction of being the first fullblood Red Wagyu born outside of Japan: a daughter of Dai 3 Namiaki by Dai 10 Mitsumaru, born January 1, 1995. Kaedemaru went to Canada after quarantine with the Kurosawatsu family at Wagyu Sekai, where she was bred to Tamamaru to produce WSI Kaedemaru 2. WSI Kaedemaru 2 carries two of the premier Akaushi dam lines in the breed through her dam Kaedemaru and her sire's dam Dai 8 Marunami, with additional Tamamaru and Dai 10 Mitsumaru influence through her sire. She is the dam of two-time National Champion Akaushi bull SOR Mr Hiromitsu (by WSI Umemaru), and her influence as a dam of sires is one of the most proven in the breed. Stone Oak Ranch's acquisition and use of WSI Kaedemaru 2 as a foundation cow reflects the serious pedigree depth built into that program.
The Linebreeding: A Double Dose of Dai 10 Mitsumaru
Mating Big Al to Kaedemaru 2 produces a concentrated convergence of Dai 10 Mitsumaru genetics. Big Al's dam Akiko was bred to Dai 10 Mitsumaru in Japan before export; Kaedemaru's sire is Dai 10 Mitsumaru directly; and Kaedemaru 2's sire Tamamaru carries Dai 8 Marunami whose own sire was Dai 3 Mitsumaru 30, the third-ranked bull in the Japanese Red Wagyu Registry. Dai 10 Mitsumaru himself ranked first in the Kumamoto proof with 41.1% of 73 progeny exceeding BMS 5 - the highest-proven Red Wagyu sire in Japan at that time. This level of Mitsumaru concentration in a single animal is extraordinary and intentional, designed to lock in the growth, balance, and carcass quality that defined his legacy.
