This special fig tree seedling comes from Hammonton, NJ history and has an interesting history. Jay and Liz Scott own a small farm there that includes more than 100 varieties of fig trees, but the most meaningful tree on the property was already there long before they arrived. The farm had remained in the same family for over 120 years. Over the years the farm produced raspberries, blackberries, melons, sweet potatoes, and peaches. When Jay and Liz purchased it, the only plant still producing fruit was an old fig tree that had quietly survived for generations. You are bidding on a seedling grown from that historic tree. Known for exceptional cold hardiness, it often produces two crops each year: a small early crop in June and July, followed by a large harvest of amber-fleshed figs from late August through October. Jay and Liz call it the Perna Tree, named after the family who previously farmed the land.
