"Each fall the short-tailed weasel sheds its rich brown fur for a white winter coat to blend with the snow, and it is then often called an ermine. In winter it feeds mostly on mice caught beneath the snow. The fearless ermine is a common sight darting in and out of woodpiles and around cabins as it hunts."
