This Louis XVI style Medallion Armchair captures the core principles of late French Neoclassicism. The most prominent feature is the medallion back, an oval-shaped upholstered rest that serves as the iconic silhouette of the period. To provide structural contrast, the chair utilizes straight, tapered legs with vertical fluting, a design element intended to mimic the architectural columns of ancient Greece and Rome.

The armrests feature elegant scroll terminations and are positioned with a deliberate setback from the seat edge. Historically, this specific spacing was engineered to accommodate the expansive skirts and formal attire of the late 1700s. The piece follows the formal symmetry and restrained ornamentation that defined the Neoclassical movement's departure from the preceding Rococo era, making it a timeless addition to a curated interior.

Neoclassical medallion armchairs are consistent auction favorites.
